This artwork was produced specifically for the purpose of this coin and was created based on many recent images of HM The King, none of which on their own quite showed a detailed or true profile. The result has been an excellent representation which has been successfully translated by the craftsmen who have sculpted the die for this coin (see photo left). Design Process & History
'Options 1 & 2' - artwork produced by the same company which produced The O.L.R lapel badges. It was felt that the style was not in keeping with traditional coinage (though similar to the Euro coin bearing a modern image of HM King Albert II, King of the Belgians), and therefore that it should be redesigned.
Version 2 Coin design - artwork by the same company. Improved design, though the image supplied did not result in quite the right detail, resulting in the King not looking quite himself! It also became clear that cost was to become an issue at this point and The O.L.R began taking quotes from other companies based on revised designs and specially created artwork of the King. |
